Bread of Shame → Bread of Life (Vessel is open!)

belonging emotions shame vessel Sep 15, 2025

Over Shabbos, while reading Rebbetzin Sarah Yehudit Schneider’s Dark Matters of the Soul, I stumbled on something that hit me hard, even though it shouldn’t have surprised me.

Did you know that shame is the first emotion in the Torah?
And it's not where you’d expect to find it.

We all know about the shame Adam and Chava felt after eating from the Eitz HaDaas. But the Torah already mentions shame before the act:

ויחיו שניהם ערומים האדם ואשתו ולא יתבששו
“And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and they were not ashamed.”

It’s right there. The problem wasn’t nakedness. It was the absence of shame. Without that inner anchor, without that little voice that says remember who you are, they lost their footing.

And that’s still our story.
Too much shame and we shrink, hide, stay paralyzed.
Too little shame and we lose our guardrails, we forget we’re part of something higher.

What we’re really searching for in the middle of all this? Belonging. To each other. To ourselves. To the story of Creation itself.

That’s why I open Vessel registration in Elul.
Because Elul is the return. The chance to stop hiding. To bring the shadows to light. To remember Who we serve and what we stand for. To practice being the person our soul already recognizes.

Vessel is about healing the toxic shame that keeps us from living, and choosing instead what the Kabbalists call the bread of shame. Not shame that breaks us. The sting that wakes us up.

The reminder that we weren’t created just to take; we were created to build, to choose, to belong; to co-create with Hashem.

Here’s how it works:

  • Early registration is open now through Wednesday at 11:59 PM

  • Use code VESSEL120 for $120 off

  • Your Heartwork Journal will be mailed to you (continental US only)

  • Doors close after this window until October 16

  • We begin Motzei Shabbos, October 25

We're saving you a seat here!

This is the middle way. This is where shame becomes dignity. Where belonging becomes real.

It’s not about perfect. It’s about honest.
Not about more tools. About more you.
And about building a life that feels true.

I would be honored to welcome you in,
