You Want the Real Story?

patterns story vessel Aug 26, 2026

Do you want the real story?

I mean the real one.

The version with the characters and the screenshots and the dramatic plot developments. Who said what. Who did what. Who was right. And who is documented, undoubtedly, unquestioningly wrong.

Yeahhh, no.

Here’s something I’ve learned after years of doing this work.

When people say, “the truth always wins,” I don’t think the truth they’re talking about is the version that gets shared on a podcast, whispered around a campfire, forwarded in a WhatsApp chat, or even written beautifully in an email.

Because every story has a narrator.

Every narrator has a lens.

And the whole truth and nothing but the truth is eventually revealed far less by what we say than by how we live.

The story is never the whole truth.

The pattern is.

Have you ever caught yourself asking, Why does this keep happening to me?

Different person. Different job. Different friendship. Different conflict. Different season of your life.

And somehow you end up standing in the same emotional place.

The same feeling. The same dynamic. The same ending.

We tell ourselves a thousand different stories about why.

"This person hurt me. That thing happened to me. My child is struggling. My marriage is difficult. My business isn’t growing. I’m overwhelmed. I can’t make a decision. I keep choosing the wrong people. I know better, and somehow I still keep doing the same thing."

And of course the details matter.

But underneath the details, there’s usually something much more interesting happening.

There’s a pattern.

A belief. A loyalty. A fear. A role you learned to play so long ago that you don’t even realize you’re still playing it.

Some unconscious agreement you made with life years ago:

This is what love feels like.

This is what I have to do to stay safe.

This is who I have to be to belong.

This is what happens when I succeed.

This is what happens when I disappoint someone.

This is what happens when I choose myself.

And then we live those beliefs out again and again, changing the cast the props, and also the scenery while once more recreating the same story.

New story. Same pattern.

That’s the part of human behavior I’m obsessed with.

Because it’s never just about how the relationship ended. It’s about the tiny, almost invisible dynamics that played out for the entire duration of it, the ones that existed for years before anyone outside of it could possibly understand.

It’s rarely only about the trauma. It’s about what we have come to believe because of what happened, and how those beliefs may still be unconsciously directing our lives twenty years later.

It’s not just about the struggling child. It’s also about the dance the whole family gets pulled into. The roles we take. The fear we respond from. The patterns we repeat as parents, even while desperately trying to do something different.

And it’s almost never truly about money. Or marriage. Or parenting. Or boundaries. Or confidence. Or success.

Those are just the places where the pattern becomes visible.

Vessel is where we go underneath it.

Under the behavior.

Under the coping.

Under the explanation you’ve given yourself a hundred times.

Under the story you already know how to tell.

And we begin asking better questions.

What do I believe?

What am I protecting?

What have I mistaken for love?

What have I mistaken for safety?

What am I actually repeating here?

What am I afraid would happen if I stopped doing this?

What belongs to me, and what have I been carrying that was never mine?

When you start asking the critical questions, something extraordinary starts to happen.

You begin to see your life differently.

You begin to recognize yourself inside the pattern instead of only recognizing what everyone else is doing.

You get choices in places where you once had only reactions.

You stop trying to fix every new chapter while unconsciously writing it from the same old script.

And this, to me, is why the work we do within Vessel is so powerful.

Because once you see the pattern, you can’t quite unsee it.

And once the unconscious stops running the whole show, there’s finally room for something new.

A different response. A different relationship. A different way of parenting. A different way of receiving. A different way of choosing.

A different story.

Some of the most important things you’ll discover will happen afterward, in the silence, when you begin noticing the patterns you’ve been playing out all along.

If you've ever wondered, "Why does this keep happening to me?"

That question might be the doorway to everything.

Stories are easy to tell.

Patterns are much harder to fake.

Eventually, if you watch long enough, life tells the rest.
